Bert Stemarthe (therapist, business psychologist and executive coach), smiling wearing glasses and a light blue button-up shirt, sitting on a green chair with a white orchid plant in the background.

Having spent many years working with business executives, entrepreneurs, directors, and senior leaders across a wide range of industries — and drawing on my background as a coach and business psychologist — I have a deep understanding of the pressures that accompany leadership and the personal toll that sustained responsibility can take on mental and emotional wellbeing.

Success in business often comes at a cost. Executives face high-stakes decisions, complex relationships, constant organisational change, and relentless performance pressure. Many appear confident and resilient on the outside while experiencing significant stress, isolation, and emotional strain behind the scenes.

Therapy with me offers a confidential, non-judgemental space to step away from those demands and explore what may be affecting both your work and personal life — gaining clarity, strengthening resilience, and developing healthier ways of managing pressure. Many executives seek therapy not because they can't cope, but because they recognise the value of investing in their psychological wellbeing and leadership effectiveness.

Therapy is not only about healing something that is broken, it is equally about exploration of the self that we are with our families, friends and colleagues.

Common presenting issues include:

  • Work-related stress and burnout

  • Anxiety, depression and low mood

  • Leadership pressure and decision fatigue

  • Imposter feelings and self-doubt

  • Difficult workplace relationships and conflict

  • Loss of confidence following career setbacks

  • Managing organisational change and uncertainty

  • Perfectionism and high self-expectations

  • Work-life balance and work/family conflict

  • Sleep problems and exhaustion

  • Relationship and family concerns

  • Retirement and career transition

  • Grief, loss, and major life changes

My approach is tailored to the individual, because every executive faces a unique set of challenges. Together, we can create a space for reflection, growth, and lasting change — helping you lead with greater confidence, balance, and authenticity.

Whether you are an executive or not, feel free to reach out to discuss how I may be able to support you.

Any questions about my therapy sessions?

Bert guided me to overcome my anxiety and rediscover a quiet, lasting sense of confidence. I felt truly seen, deeply supported, and able to trust in the process in a way that transformed me.

I recommend Bert, his practice was very helpful to me - with an effective balance of attentive listening and reacting in constructive ways.
— BS
Bert instantly put me at ease at the outset of our first meeting. He has a very calming, no-nonsense demeanour. I found him totally credible. What I liked about my sessions with Bert is that there were no gimmicks or unrealistic techniques. Instead I could determine my own course of actions. Bert was fantastic at asking me the right questions and building a framework to help me figure out the answers for myself. I walked away from my sessions with Bert with a huge amount of confidence, a concrete plan and a much more targeted set of priorities. Even after the first session I was able to make immediate changes in my behaviour that had a positive impact.
Overall, Bert is great to work with; he has the balance of challenge and support just right, he truly listens and the end-results are hugely beneficial. He really helped me figure out my professional priorities and then put in place the right plan to see them through.

Home Visits

For some people, getting to clinic is very difficult because of the lack of time or disability, and yet, they would prefer the in-person therapy experience. Others may want to have face to face therapy and may not want the publicity of visiting me in clinic. If this is you, then I offer home visits where you can have the same experience in the privacy of your own home.
